Today’s Top Pick is a 1973 Cessna T310Q.

Decades ago I spotted a Cessna 310 POH at a used-book sale and had to have it. I picked up a hardcover copy of Chuck Yeager’s autobiography at the same sale and learned a lot about flying from both books.

While I will never approach Yeager’s rarified level of pilotage, I may yet manage to own a 310 someday. Right now, I want this one.

The 310 has been a favorite of mine since childhood when I became aware of airplanes flying over our suburban New Jersey home. Wingtip-mounted main tanks made this light twin easy to spot and added to an already gorgeous design. My father called it an example of “Buck Rogers styling.” He said the same about the mid-1960s Chevrolet Corvette Stingrays that I coveted.

It is natural for pilots to be attracted by the promise of speed. This particular 310, which has undergone a Riley Turbostream conversion, is more prepared than most light piston twins to keep the promise.

Aviation innovator Jack Riley was famous for conversions that coaxed truly impressive performance from Cessnas and other makes. The 310 Turbostream swapped the aircraft’s original Continental engines for larger, turbocharged, intercooled, counter-rotating Lycoming 540s generating 350 hp each.

With that much power, legend has it, the Turbostream can reach 260 ktas, or about 300 mph. How I would love to give that a try.

Not long ago I read about the aircraft for sale here in an article on the Cessna Owner Organization website. I thought about how airplanes like this seem to never show up on the used market but now here it is for sale. It is hard to resist.

This 1973 Cessna T310Q has 4,400 hours on the airframe, 415 hours since overhaul on each of its 350 hp Lycoming TIO-540-N2BD engines, and 428 hours since overhaul on its Hartzell heated three-blade propellers.

The IFR panel includes a garmin GTN 750 GPS/nav/comm, Bendix King KX 165 nav/comm, dual Garmin G5s, dual Garmin GI 275 engine instruments, Garmin GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B In and Out, and Garmin GMA 345 audio panel, Bendix 82 color radar, and Cessna 400A autopilot with yaw damper.

Pilots looking for a sleek, roomy light twin with hot-rod performance and cross-country practicality should consider this 1973 Cessna T310Q, which is available for $295,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2021 BRM Aero Bristell LSA.

The stereotype is out of date, but there still are a lot of people who think of light sport aircraft (LSA) as small, slow, and cramped. The BRM Aero Bristell defies that characterization, as well as the idea that light sports are toys, not traveling machines.

The Bristell’s wide cabin, impressive climb, and cruise performance make it an ideal escape vehicle for two people on weekend excursion or taking a long-awaited vacation trip.

For many pilots, LSAs offer an opportunity to fly at lower cost with fewer complications. The Bristell aims to meet those standards while delivering the kind of performance pilots might expect only from larger, more complex aircraft. It is also a sharp-looking, well-finished airplane that most pilots would be proud to park in their hangar.

This 2021 BRM Aero Bristell LSA has 40 hours on the airframe and on its 140 hp turbocharged and intercooled Rotax engine. The aircraft’s empty weight is 843 pounds.

The IFR panel features dual 10-inch Garmin G3X touchscreens, G5 EFIS, GNX 375 GPS, Garmin autopilot with GMC 507 module, Garmin GT 20R comm radio, and SiriusXM Weather.

Pilots looking for a reliable, responsive, and comfortable light sport aircraft with high climb rates and cruising speeds should consider this BRM Aero Bristell LSA, which is available for $335,000 on AircraftForSale.

Each day, the team at AircraftForSale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1981 Beechcraft A36TC Bonanza.

For many pilots who regard their airplanes as time-saving transportation for family and business trips, the Beechcraft A36 Bonanza is an extremely attractive proposition. Its combination of a six-place cabin, cruise performance, and load-carrying capacity makes the aircraft ideal for long cross-country trips.

The aircraft for sale here is a relatively rare turbocharged A36TC, which gives its owner more options in selecting cruising altitudes that will optimize performance and cut travel time.

Aesthetics add to the Bonanza’s appeal. From the early V-tail models to the conventional or “straight tail” versions that came later, Bonanzas are great-looking aircraft. Some find the 36 series, with its fuselage gracefully stretched to accommodate a third row of seats, the best-looking iteration of the Bonanza, though others will debate this issue in perpetuity.

It does seem safe to suggest that most pilots would be happy to have an A36TC in their hangar and to fly their family in it to a new vacation destination.

This 1981 A36TC has 2,630 hours on the airframe, 621 hours since overhaul on its 300 hp Continental TSIO-520-UB engine, and 653 hours since overhaul on its Hartzell PHC-C3YF-1RF propeller. The aircraft was repainted in 2018 and has operated for 432 hours since receiving new Millennium cylinders.

Additional equipment includes 20-gallon Osborne tip tanks, standby alternator, standby vacuum pump, LED landing, taxi and beacon lights, Eagle fuel drains on main tanks, and stainless steel locking gas caps. The aircraft has a usable fuel capacity of 114 gallons. MTOW is 3,833 pounds and useful load is 1,310 pounds.

The panel features a PS Engineering PMA-8000B audio panel, Avidyne IFD 540 nav/comm, Garmin GNC 255A nav/comm, King KFC 200 autopilot, KI 256 flight director, KAS 297 altitude preselect, dual altimeters, Garmin GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B In and Out, Collins DME, Insight Strikefinder, Shadin digital fuel flow, and JPI EDM 700 engine monitor.

Pilots seeking a high-flying, high-performance six-seater for efficient family or business travel should consider this 1981 Beechcraft A36TC, which is available for $330,000 on AircraftForSale.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1976 Ted Smith Aerostar.

Many pilots consider the Aerostar the ultimate light piston twin. Its projectile-shaped fuselage, swept tail surfaces and wings set farther aft than on the average piston aircraft give this twin a speedy look.

Taking off and accelerating in the climb, you realize that the slick shape is not just for show.

Aerostars have set numerous speed records over the years, and pressurized, turbocharged versions like this 601P tend to be the quickest.

This aircraft received a Machen Superstar 700 conversion package from Machen Inc. in 1999. This is a well-known upgrade that includes intercoolers and other equipment to boost power.

This Aerostar’s speed and large, pressurized cabin give it the feel of a small airliner, which pleases most passengers. For pilots who travel a lot, often accompanied by family, friends, or business colleagues, the Aerostar represents a chance to cut travel time significantly compared with ground and can even beat the airlines easily on certain routes.

This 1976 Aerostar has 7,221 hours on the airframe, 1,173 hours since overhaul on the left engine, and 1,291 hours since overhaul on the right. The engines are 350 hp turbocharged and intercooled Lycoming IO-540s. The left and right propellers each have 1,459 hours since overhaul.

The aircraft’s engines are part of the Machen Superstar conversion to increase performance. This Aerostar also is equipped with vortex generators and air conditioning.

The aircraft’s panel features dual Garmin GNS 430 GPS/Nav/Comms, dual Garmin G5 electronic instruments, Garmin GMA 340 audio panel, GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B, and Century IV autopilot.

Pilots searching for a high-flying pressurized light twin with six seats and famously high cruising speeds should consider this 1976 Ted Smith Aerostar 601P, which is available for $199,500 on AircraftForSale.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1973 Cessna P337G Skymaster.

Pilots who wish to step up to multiengine aircraft from high-performance piston singles have options that offer a range of improvements in safety and performance.

While many private pilots looking for a boost in power will find turboprop singles more attractive than piston twins, having the redundancy of a second engine under certain conditions still means a lot to cross-country travelers.

Cessna designed the Skymaster series of twins with centerline-mounted engines that avoid the challenges of asymmetric thrust that come into play when an engine fails on a traditional light twin. As with any unusual configuration, some people love the Skymaster’s styling, while others are less enthusiastic. I imagine fans of the 1988 film Bat*21 would be absolutely stoked to fly a Skymaster.

The pressurized, turbocharged version for sale here makes the most of the aircraft’s performance potential by enabling it to take advantage of greater cruising speeds and favorable winds available at higher altitudes. Pilots who travel regularly with passengers, especially family members, are well aware of the advantages of a pressurized cabin.

This 1973 Cessna Skymaster has 2,500 hours on the airframe, 800 hours on the front engine since overhaul, and 12 hours on the rear engine since overhaul. The aircraft is equipped with Continental TSIO-360 engines. The front propeller has 800 hours, and the rear propeller has 12 hours.

The panel features dual King KX 155 Nav/Comms, King audio panel, intercom, transponder and HSI, S-Tec 60 autopilot, Garmin GPS, and JPI 760 engine monitor.

Pilots who are interested in the advantages of twin-engine aircraft for long-distance travel, including the ability to continue flying if one engine fails, should consider this 1973 Cessna P337G Skymaster, which is available for $120,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1981 Cessna T210N Centurion.

After recently featuring the six-seat Beechcraft A36 Bonanza, we decided to follow with that airplane’s close rival from Cessna.

In head-to-head competition the two are very close, with the buyer’s decision often determined by small details, such as a preference for high-wing aircraft over low-wing models, or club seating instead of all seats facing forward. For many pilots, though, the Cessna 210, especially the turbocharged models, offer an attractive combination of cruising speed, load-lifting capability, and short-field performance.

The 210 is an especially pleasant airplane for long cross-country trips with family and friends because of its roomy cabin and smooth, stable flight characteristics. For pilots who trained in Cessna 172 or 152s, the larger 210 will feel familiar enough to make checkout flights less intimidating. The aircraft has a strong community of owners, clubs, and maintenance shops supporting it in addition to the factory, so finding parts and service to keep these impressive birds in the air is not difficult.

This 1981 Cessna T210N has 5,386 hours on the airframe and 286 hours on its 310 hp Continental TSIO-520-R engine and McCauley C290D4-J/T2 propeller. The aircraft carries 90 gallons of usable fuel and has had the same owner since new.

The panel features dual King KY 196 radios, King KR 87 ADF, KT 76A transponder, KMA 28 audio panel, S-Tec 50 autopilot, King KNS 80 HSI, King DME, Garmin GDL 82 ADS-B, Sadin fuel flow monitor, and vertical card compass.

Additional equipment includes a six-place intercom and oxygen system, strobes on the wing tips and tail, cabin courtesy lights, Rosen sun visors, auxiliary avionics cooling fan, CHT and EGT probes on all six cylinders, standby alternator and vacuum pump, and Cleveland wheels and brakes.

Travelers who have outgrown typical four-place retractables and truly can make use of another pair of seats should consider this 1981 Cessna T210N Centurion, which is available for $249,000 on AircraftForSale.

If you’re interested in financing, you can do so with FLYING Finance. Use their airplane loan calculator to calculate your estimated monthly payments. Or, to speak with an aviation finance specialist, visit flyingfinance.com.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1986 Mooney M20K 252TSE.

Over decades of production, Mooney’s M20 series went through numerous changes as the aircraft evolved to meet customer demands. Even the earliest models, though, were known for getting high performance from relatively low power.

When some of the first M20s hit the market, they used 150 hp engines similar to those in Cessna 172s, but their sports car-like performance felt nothing like that of a trainer. The M20 gradually gained speed using more powerful engines but always seemed to accomplish a lot with a little.

The M20K model for sale here marked a significant advance in performance with engine output climbing above 200 hp and turbocharging that enabled the aircraft to make the most of its clean aerodynamics by flying at higher altitudes. When you fly a Mooney, you can feel the difference a truly efficient design makes, especially during the approach and landing phases of flight.

Mooneys slip through the air so readily that slowing one down for landing can be challenging. While experienced Mooney pilots generally do not have trouble controlling their speed, this M20K and many like it have speedbrakes that deploy from the wings, just in case.

This 1986 Mooney M20K has 1,660 hours on the airframe and its 225 hp Lycoming TSIO-360 engine. Its Hartzell three-blade aluminum propeller was installed in 2003 and has been in service for 500 hours. The aircraft carries 72 gallons of fuel and has a range of 890 nm, maximum takeoff weight of 2,900 pounds and useful load of 803 pounds. It is equipped with speedbrakes and an oxygen system.

The panel includes a Garmin GMA 35c audio panel, GTN 750 GPS/Nav/Comm, G500 flight display, G5, GTX 345R transponder, and AutoCruze 230 autopilot.

Pilots looking for a fast, efficient traveling airplane that can operate comfortably at high altitudes should consider this 1986 Mooney M20K 252TSE, which is available for $280,000 on AircraftForSale.

You can arrange financing of the aircraft through FLYING Finance. For more information, email info@flyingfinance.com.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2019 Cessna T206H.

When Cessna resumed production of certain single-engine piston aircraft during the 1990s, it was no surprise that the 206 was one of the models the company brought back.

While the Cessna 172 and 182 were clear choices for covering the market for trainers and basic personal aircraft, some customers would need more cabin space, power, and utility than those four-place models could provide. The 206 brought two additional seats, double doors on the right rear to ease cargo and passenger loading, more horsepower, and a high-lift wing for hauling heavy loads from short strips.

The aircraft for sale here retains the traits that have made 206s popular since their introduction in the 1960s. As a nearly new 2019 model, though, it adds an upgraded interior, modern integrated avionics, and the range of capabilities that come with advanced automation.

This 2019 Cessna T206H has 743 hours on the airframe and 636 hours since new on its Lycoming TIO-540 engine and heated McCauley propeller.

The aircraft’s panel features the Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite with Garmin Flight Stream 510, GMA 1360 digital audio panel with marker beacon and intercom, GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B In and Out, dual GIA 64W GPS/Nav/Comms with glideslope, GDU 1054B PFD and MFD, GEA 71B engine/airframe computer, GSU 75 AHRS, GDC 74A air data computer, GI 275 electronic standby flight instrument, and GFC-700 autopilot.

Pilots who are interested in a well-equipped, versatile aircraft with six seats and a generous useful load should consider this 2019 Cessna T206H, which is available for $889,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1978 Piper PA-28R-201T Turbo Arrow III.

Piper rolled out the PA-28R as the Cherokee Arrow in 1967 but soon dropped “Cherokee” from its name even though the only significant differences were the Arrow’s retractable gear and constant-speed propeller. The Arrow was also a lot faster than the fixed-gear PA28 with similar power, and gave Piper a model to compete with Mooney M20s and other entry-level retractables.

When discussing the Arrow, people will tell you that the ability to outpace its fixed-gear relatives does not make the aircraft a true speedster and that pilots should not expect more than 140 ktas in cruise. The Turbo Arrow III version for sale here, however, is the exception. Its turbocharged Continental TSIO-360 engine gives pilots the option of flying at higher altitudes without losing power the way naturally aspirated engines do. Turbo Arrows can reach 170 ktas given the right combination of power setting and altitude, which makes them capable traveling machines.

This 1978 Piper Turbo Arrow III has 4,921 hours on the airframe and 159 hours on its 200 hp Continental TSIO-360 engine since overhaul in 2019 by Western Skyways. There are 884 hours on the Hartzell propeller since overhaul.

The panel features a Garmin GNC 420W GPS/Com, Bendix-King KX155 Nav/Com, Lynx NGT9000 transponder with ADS-B In and Out, AutoControl IIIB autopilot, Garmin Aera 660 with SiriusXM weather and audio, PS engineering audio panel with four-place intercom, and Electronics International instruments for manifold pressure, tachometer, oil pressure and temperature, fuel computer, CHT/EGT, amps and volts.

Additional equipment includes a standby vacuum system, Tanis engine preheater, electric pitch trim, rudder trim, dual toe brakes, LED landing light, and external power receptacle.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1998 Beechcraft B36TC Bonanza.

Beechcraft’s Bonanza has always been a top choice among traveling airplanes. The late 1960s development of the stretched, six-seat A36 model made life even better for pilots transporting people and cargo. A number of aftermarket and factory turbocharging options have been available for the aircraft over the decades, but many consider the final version, the B36TC, the best.

A few things set the B36TC apart from earlier turbocharged Bonanzas, including a longer wing and changes to the turbocharger installation to aid engine cooling. All together, the improvements led to an airplane that gives pilots more flexibility when planning and conducting flights. One of the aircraft’s biggest advantages is the ability to operate more consistently at high altitudes. Whether taking off at high field elevations or cruising in the flight levels, turbocharging keeps the power up in situations that would be marginal for naturally aspirated piston aircraft.

This B36TC has 2,208 hours on the airframe and 436 hours on its 300 hp Continental TSIO-520 engine and McCauley 3-blade propeller since overhaul.

The panel features a Garmin G500 PFD and MFD with synthetic vision, GTN 750 GPS/Nav/Com, GNC 255 Nav/Com, GMA 35 audio panel, GI 275 engine monitor, GI 275 standby attitude indicator, GTX 330ES transponder, Bendix-King KFC150 autopilot with yaw damper, and L3 WX500 Stormscope.

Additional equipment includes a digital air conditioning system, D’Shannon baffle kit, standby vacuum system and gyro, seven-place oxygen, dual toe brakes, USB charging ports, Rosen sun visors, electric pitch trim and LED beacon, strobes, nav, landing and taxi lights.
