Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1963 Piper PA-24-250 Comanche.

Take your mind back to the mid-1950s when Piper executives were working on their answer to rival Beechcraft’s Bonanza, a slick, all-metal jewel in a sea of kite-like, high-wing, rag-and-tube aircraft that characterized general aviation at the time.

The resulting Piper PA-24 Comanche was similarly modern, even futuristic. Generally lower list prices for the Piper helped drive brisk sales. Pilots searching the used market today can expect similar value opportunities in the used-aircraft market.

Unlike the Bonanza, which has remained on the market even through difficult times for the aviation industry, the Comanche’s retail run was cut short by a flood that wrecked the company’s Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, factory in 1972. The resulting damage to tooling led to the abrupt end of Comanche production. The relatively high cost of assembling the PA-24 also made it easier for Piper to let the old bird go.

This 1963 Piper Comanche has 2,018 hours on the airframe, 102 hours since overhaul on its Lycoming 0-540 engine, and 5.79 hours since overhaul on its propeller. The aircraft is equipped with chrome cylinders.

The IFR panel includes King KX 170 and KX 175 nav/comm radios, Narco At150 transponder, Sky Beacon for ADS-B Out, Sky Sensor ADS-B In, S-TEC autopilot, King KMA 20 audio panel, Skycom 200E intercom, and Alcor EGT instrument.

Pilots who are looking for a fast, handsome, high-performance retractable single and agree that age is just a number should consider this 1963 Piper PA-24-250 Comanche, which is available for $100,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2022 Diamond DA50.

Many pilots have seen the DA50 RG over the last two years or so. Those among us who are lucky have seen one up close, possibly at an airshow or trade gathering, sat in the cockpit and imagined ourselves at the controls on our way to a favorite destination.

This aircraft presents an opportunity to acquire a DA50 with low time instead of signing onto a long waiting list to buy one new from the factory.

Austria-based Diamond’s aircraft have sparked great interest in the U.S. for years because of their novel designs, composite structures, and efficient, economical jet-A fueled power plants that start with the press of a button instead of the lever gymnastics to which many of us are accustomed. One look at a DA50, or a skim of its POH, confirms that it is a modern airplane, not one designed during the middle of the last century.

This Diamond DA50 RG has 392 hours on the airframe, its 300 hp Continental CD-300 turbocharged, FADEC controlled diesel engine, and MT three-blade propeller. The aircraft is equipped with air conditioning, a TKS de-icing system and supplemental oxygen system.

The IFR panel features Garmin G1000 NXi avionics with dual GDU 105 10-inch displays for PFD and MFD, a Garmin GEA 71B airframe/engine interface, dual Garmin GIA 64W GPS/nav/comms with glidescope and localizer indicators, a GMA 1360 audio panel, GRS 79 AHRS, GDC 72 digital air data computer, GMU 44 magnetometer, GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B In and Out, GFC 700 autopilot, digital standby attitude module, Garmin Flight Stream 510, synthetic vision, WX 500 Stormscope, Avidyne TAS 605A traffic advisory system, GSR 56 Iridium satellite datalink, and Honeywell KN 63 DME.

Pilots looking for an advanced, fast, and efficient traveling aircraft that features familiar, easy-to-use automotive-style systems, should consider this 2022 Diamond DA50 RG which is available on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2024 JMB Aircraft VL-3 915iS.

The proliferation of composite materials and advanced manufacturing techniques have made the homebuilt experimental aircraft category increasingly interesting—and tempting—in recent years.

Pilots who previously considered owning only traditional certified aircraft can find experimental models especially attractive when they see how impressively some of them perform while burning very little fuel.

The two-seat VL-3 from JMB Aircraft makes a strong case as an ideal personal airplane for people who like to travel with no more than one passenger and reach their destination sooner than they would in many piston singles from legacy manufacturers.

Produced in the Czech Republic, which is a hotbed of light sport and experimental aircraft innovation, the VL-3 can cruise at 185 ktas using about half the fuel required in a high-performance, four-seat retractable piston single. The flying experience is more akin to driving an exotic sports car on backroads than guiding the family sedan down the Interstate.

This 2024 VL-3 has 23 hours on the airframe, its141 hp Rotax 915is engine, and DUC four-blade propeller. The aircraft is equipped with Beringer brakes, LED exterior lights, and ballistic parachute recovery system. It carries 38.6 gallons of fuel and has a maximum takeoff weight of 1,360 pounds.

The panel features Garmin G3X avionics with a 10-inch GDU 460 touchscreen and autopilot, TRIG TR91 radio, TRIG TT22 Mode S transponder, Garmin GTR 20R radio, Garmin 245 audio panel GTN 750 GPS/nav/comm, Garmin GTX 45R transponder with ADS-B In and Out, Smart Glide angle of attack instrument, and vertical compass.

Pilots looking for a modern, high-performance experimental homebuilt aircraft with cross-country speeds that outpace many larger, traditional certified models should consider this nearly new JMB Aircraft VL-3, which is available for $440,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2005 Cirrus SR22 G2.

During the 1970s, when Queen drummer Roger Taylor sang about “the machine of a dream, such a clean machine,” he was referring to a car. Today a whole lot of pilots might hum the same tune while thinking about the Cirrus SR22.

A tour de force of design, performance, and innovation, the Cirrus is among the most popular general aviation aircraft of all time because it has what pilots want—cross-country speed, great looks, and a parachute that can save the day in an emergency.

Now that the SR22 has been on the market for more than 20 years, there are many used examples available for a wide range of prices depending on their age and equipment. The earliest first- and second-generation models often come up for sale at prices similar to those of other fast piston singles that often are decades older.

The 2005 G2 example for sale here is equipped with the Avidyne primary flight and multifunction displays typical for that generation of SR22. Later versions received more advanced and increasingly integrated Garmin avionics, however, a pilot would be fortunate to find anything close to this aircraft’s Avidyne panel in other used piston singles.

This aircraft represents a significant value for pilots who like the SR22’s modern design but are not ready to spend up to $1 million or more for a newer model.

This 2005 SR22 has 3,136 hours on the airframe and 220 hours since overhaul on its 310 hp Continental IO-550 engine. The aircraft is equipped with a TKS deicing system, and its parachute was recently repacked, so the next owner will have about 10 years before the next repack is due.

The IFR panel features an Avidyne Entegra PFD and Avidyne EX5000 MFD, dual Garmin GNS 430 GPS/nav/comms, one with WAAS, PMA 8000 audio panel,  transponder with ADS-B Out, L-3 Skywatch Active Traffic system, WX 500 Stormscope, Emax engine monitor, Cmax electronic charts, and S-TEC 55 autopilot.

Pilots looking for the advanced design, efficiency, and performance of a Cirrus SR22 at a price point more in keeping with a Cessna 210 Centurion or an older Beechcraft Bonanza should consider this 2005 Cirrus SR22 G2, which is available for $349,000 on AircraftForSale.

If you’re interested in financing, you can do so with FLYING Finance. Use its airplane loan calculator to calculate your estimated monthly payments. Or, to speak with an aviation finance specialist, visit flyingfinance.com.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2024 Cessna T206H.

Ever since its arrival in the mid-1960s, the Cessna 206 has been desirable for its versatility.

The aircraft is known for its double cargo doors, designed to allow the loading of a 55-gallon drum and other heavy, awkward items, but that big cabin has always been an inviting place for passengers as well. Over time this utility design has evolved to become an all-around personal aircraft capable of moving furniture to a new home or transporting your family on a luxury vacation.

If the easiest route—or possibly the only route—to your next destination includes a backcountry turf strip, the T206H is the right airplane for the job. It also fits right in when rolling up to a posh FBO serving high-end resorts.

With a  maximum takeoff weight of 3,600 pounds, the T206H can lift more people and cargo than most piston singles while still providing solid cross-country cruising speed. While pilots will appreciate this aircraft’s short-field capability and easy handling, passengers will remember its comfortable seats, legroom, and factory air conditioning.

When they say the airplane is just like an SUV, they mean it as a compliment.

This 2024 Cessna 206 is close to brand-new, having logged just 50 hours. The aircraft is equipped with a 310 hp Textron Lycoming TIO-540-AJ1A engine and a heated three-blade McCauley propeller.

The IFR panel features the Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite with ADS-B In and Out, wireless database and flight plan loading, Garmin Electronic Stability Protection, integrated VFR sectional charts, IFR high and low charts with Night Mode, vertical situation display, and selectable visual approaches.

Pilots looking for a roomy, powerful and capable late-model load carrier that is ideal for family and business travel should consider this 2024 Cessna T206H, which is available for $1.15 million on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1978 Cessna 172N Skyhawk.

Many pilots have at least considered training for a seaplane rating and possibly finding the ideal aircraft for our intended missions, from fishing trips to family excursions on remote rivers and lakes. While the fantasy version of this daydream probably involves a deHavilland Beaver or turbine Otter, a Cessna 172 like this one seems like a more practical approach.

The aircraft for sale here is equipped with Baumann 2550 floats, which are known for light weight. Its engine was upgraded to 180 hp from the original 150 and would still be familiar and relatively easy to handle for any pilot who has flown or trained in 172s.

I know of several out-of-the-way places I would like to visit in an airplane like this. I am adding the seaplane rating to my to-do list for 2025.

This 172N has 6,123 hours on the airframe and 1,276 since overhaul on its 180 hp Lycoming O-360 engine. The engine upgrade was part of the Penn Yan conversion and includes a powerflow exhaust. The VFR panel features a standard six pack of gauges, a Garmin GNC 250XL GPS and a Bendix-King KX 155 nav/com radio.

Pilots who want a straightforward, utilitarian floatplane to expand their flying adventures to waterways should take a look at this 1978 Cessna 172N Skyhawk, which is available for $132,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1947 Aeronca 7BCM.

I have always preferred the Aeronca Champ over its more-famous rival, the Piper J-3 Cub, because as a solo pilot you sit in the front seat instead of the rear, and as a result can actually see where you are going.

This is particularly important on the ground, where taildraggers tend to be the most challenging. I can see over the Champ’s nicely tapered nose but no such luck with the Piper.

Of course, I would never wave off either of the classic machines, especially in their military liaison versions—like this Aeronca, also known as an L-16A—which have extended greenhouses intended for observers in the back seat. Nowadays those airy glass enclosures give passengers a near-panoramic view and make the vintage-aircraft experience far more palatable for first-timers.

Early taildraggers like this Aeronca are a joy to fly on short hops for breakfast, lunch, or fly-ins at local airports. Packing one up for an overnight trip is also a fun way to spend a weekend, whether you plan to camp under the stars or retire to a cozy bed-and-breakfast.

This Aeronca 7BCM has 5,894 hours on the airframe and 329 hours since overhaul on its Continental C85 engine.

While the Aeronca is a basic, fairly bare-bones aircraft, it does have certain features that enhance its effectiveness in the backcountry, including a 7-gallon fuel tank in its wing in addition to the 15-gallon main tank, a Brackett air filter, tinted visor, front and rear side windows that open,  quick-release door hinge, hand brake, no-bounce landing gear, Aero-Classic 850×6 main tires, new exhaust, and air vents.

The VFR panel includes a digital comm radio, turn coordinator, tachometer, airspeed indicator, altimeter, oil temperature and pressure gauges, fuel gauge, and compass—everything you need.

Pilots looking for a back-to-basics tailwheel airplane with vintage appeal and extra visibility that will impress passengers should consider this 1947 Aeronca 7BCM, which is available for $39,000 on AircraftForSale.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1990 SOCATA TB-21 Trinidad.

French design tends to stand out whether we are looking at tableware, furniture, cars, or aircraft. Even nonpilots probably would recognize the SOCATA TB-21 Trinidad’s European styling, especially when comparing its interior with contemporary models from the U.S.

The TB-21’s cabin reminds me of Citroen sedans from the 1970s and ’80s, which seemed at the time to be a decade or two ahead of anything in, say, the General Motors stable.

Beyond decor and perhaps more important when considering the Trinidad’s cabin is its roominess, especially in width. Pilots are unlikely to rub shoulders with passengers in any of SOCATA’s TB series models, which include the fixed-gear TB-9 and TB-10, and the normally aspirated TB-20.

And let’s not forget the top-hinged, gull-wing doors that make getting in and out of TB models particularly easy. Those doors also look extremely cool to onlookers at the airport, and some of that flair is bound to rub off on the pilot.

This 1990 SOCATA TB-21 Trinidad has 3,065 hours on the airframe, 232 hours since overhaul on its Lycoming TIO-540 engine, and 232 hours on its Hartzell two-blade propeller. The one panel includes Dual Aspen 2000 Pro displays for PFD and MFD, Garmin GTN 650W GPS/nav/comm, King KLN 90 GPS, KN74 transponder, with ADS-B, TCAS, and Bendix-King KFC 150 autopilot. The aircraft is also equipped with TKS ice protection, factory oxygen system, and air conditioning.

Pilots who would like a stylish, comfortable aircraft that stands out on the ramp and is somewhat rare should consider this 1990 SOCATA TB-21 Trinidad, which  is available for $259,000 on AircraftForSale.

If you’re interested in financing, you can do so with FLYING Finance. Use their airplane loan calculator to calculate your estimated monthly payments. Or, to speak with an aviation finance specialist, visit flyingfinance.com.

Today’s Top Pick is a 1979 Piper PA-28RT-201 Arrow IV.

Over the decades general aviation has produced a number of design flourishes aimed at setting certain aircraft apart from their competitors. Critics often dismiss these features as gimmicks, but at least they look cool when new.

Even the Beechcraft Bonanza’s iconic V-tail empennage arguably has more to do with form than function. Still, it looks great today and is attracting a new audience including pilots too young to remember the model’s heyday.

I think the T-tail Pipers are enjoying a similar effect now, especially the Arrow, which has attractive proportions that harmonize well with the high-mounted horizontal stabilizer. Arrows with standard tails tend to blend a little too well with the less-powerful, fixed-gear Piper Cherokees that essentially share the same airframe.

Owners who want their Arrows to stand out on the ramp can count on the T-tail to make that happen. The turbocharged version, like the aircraft for sale here, gives pilots more options for achieving the best possible performance, including flying at higher altitudes, where normally aspirated models rarely venture, in search of more speed.

This 1979 Arrow IV has 5,765 hours on the airframe, zero hours on its Continental TSIO-360 engine, and 855 hours since overhaul on its three-blade McCauley propeller. The aircraft is equipped with a Merlyn wastegate, carries 65 gallons of fuel and has a useful load of 1,148 pounds.

The IFR panel includes a Garmin GNS 530W GPS/comm, Garmin GNC 255A digital nav/comm, GMA 355 audio panel, Garmin glideslope/VOR/localizer indicator, G5 directional gyro, GTX 345 transponder with ADS-B in and out, Collins ADF, EDM 700 engine monitor, and a Piper Autocontrol II autopilot.

Pilots looking for a reliable, well-supported and stylish complex single with turbocharging to handle higher altitudes should consider this 1979 Piper PA-28RT-201 Arrow IV, which is available for $155,000 on AircraftForSale.

Each day, the team at Aircraft For Sale picks an airplane that catches our attention because it is unique, represents a good deal, or has other interesting qualities. You can read Aircraft For Sale: Today’s Top Pick at FLYINGMag.com daily.

Today’s Top Pick is a 2021 Diamond DA40 NG.

The Diamond DA40 has been around for more than 20 years, but the NG should not be lumped in with earlier versions or with those powered by gasoline.

The jet-A-burning NG is smooth, quiet, and overall pleasant enough to convince skeptics to switch fuels. Years of evolution have also yielded an airplane that is more pleasant and economical to operate and therefore easier to love.

For owners who want to use their airplanes for cross-country missions, the DA40 NG has advantages over older trainer models such as the Cessna 172 and Piper PA-28. It cruises faster while burning less fuel, and its modern design incorporates more thoughtful comfort and convenience features than its legacy competitors.

This 2021 DA40 NG has 1,050 hours on the airframe, its 168 hp Austro Engine AE 300 diesel engine, and propeller since new. The aircraft carries 39 gallons of usable fuel and is equipped with air conditioning.

The DA40 NG’s IFR panel features the Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite with dual 10-inch screens for PFD and MFD, Garmin GEA71B airframe/engine interface unit, dual GIA 64W GPS/nav/comms, GMA 1360 audio panel, GTX 345R transponder with ADS-B In and Out, GRS 79 AHRS, GDC 72 digital air data computer, GMU 44 magnetometer, synthetic vision, GFC 700 autopilot, and Flight Stream 510.

Pilots looking to buy their first aircraft, especially those who trained in Diamonds, should consider this 2021 Diamond DA40 NG, which is available for $549,900 on AircraftForSale.
